How it all began...

That was my first painting. A copied scene of an Italian farm found on the cover of a popular watercolor sketch pad. A watercolor set had been in my closet for a full year. My dad had discovered painting in-between careers, but found watercolors frustrating, so he passed them along to me. One day, tired of TV and other rote stress relievers, I pulled out my dad's watercolors and...hmmm? Is this how you do it? I had fun and enjoyed doing my best to imitate the painting on the cover of my watercolor sketch pad, but I knew I was missing something, even though I liked what I "created." That very week, I happened to meet Alan Morris, a very gifted watercolor artist who took me under his wing, and a new passion was born! He taught me the value of using truly good materials, artist grade paints and quality paper and brushes. He also taught me to enjoy the unpredictable nature of watercolors and to let them do their thing, as the colors run, mix and splatter. I am so grateful for people like him who have so unselfishly given of their time and expertise. I can only hope to do the same for others.
